Does New York University have a good reputation of giving a lot of Financial Aid?

Hi, I am going to apply to New York University for the 2009 fall semester. I was wondering whether it has a good reputation of giving enough Financial Aid for the average middle class person. Thanks.

  1. No. Students going to NYU typically end up taking out loans to cover most of their tuition. They tend to be more generous with students who qualify for extensive need-based aid, but the average middle class person wouldn't get much of a package there. However, don't let that defer you! Apply anyway, apply for financial aid, and see what happens. Don't give it up until you're 100% sure you can't afford it. Chances are, you might be able to do it, especially if it's where you really want to go! Also, don't overlook other schools. You want to lock in some good options. Good luck.
  2. You should be able to find out the percentage of student financial aid given out by schools in the college guidebooks. NYU is such a popular school, they don't really need to give good financial aid to get students. You're more likely to get good financial aid at a school for which you would be a "catch", i.e. a school that would really want you for a student, based on your grades, SATs, etc, compared to their "average" student.
